Masjid al-Ijabah (Makkah)
Masjid al-Ijabah (Arabic: مسجد الإجابة) is one of the oldest mosques in Makkah, having been built around 3 AH (624 CE). The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have prayed in this location. There is also another mosque with the same name in Madinah.
Masjid al-Ijabah is considered one of the oldest mosques in Makkah. It is located in al-Muhassab (known as al-Ma’abada today), situated between Masjid al-Haram and Mina.
Tradition holds that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed at this site after the Quraysh boycotted him and his family in 5 BH (616 CE) and on the day of the Conquest of Makkah in 8 AH (630 CE). He also prayed in this area during the Farewell Hajj in 10 AH (632 CE).
This mosque is constructed near the site where Sayyidatuna Khadijah J would come to meet the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ before the revelation. During the Prophet’s frequent retreats in the Cave of Hira, he would meet and spend time with Khadijah at this location, which was nearly halfway between their home and the cave. Here, she would bring provisions for him to help extend his stay.
It was first constructed circa 3 AH (624 CE). Over time, the mosque has undergone renovations, including a transition to a modern architectural style and expansion, increasing its area to 400 square meters. Its most recent restoration, in 1422 AH (2001 CE), included the addition of coloured marble cladding, a central dome, a minaret, and external wudhu facilities for worshippers.
