Damm
Damm (Arabic: دم), also spelled “Dum” or “Dam”, refers to the sacrifice of a small animal such as a sheep or a goat (or the cost of one-seventh of a large animal if sharing) as compensation (Fidyah) for missing an action or violating a Hajj or Umrah-related law. Damm must be carried out in Makkah. Our team can carry out your Damm with our dedicated shariah-compliant service.
Damm Meaning and Reasons for Giving
Damm involves the ritual slaughter of a sacrificial animal (known as a qurban in Arabic), such as a sheep, goat, or a share of a camel or cow to rectify an error during Umrah or Hajj.
This act must be performed within the boundaries of the Haram, and the meat must be distributed to the needy, whether they are residents of Makkah or foreigners.
A Damm is not intended as a punishment for your violation. Instead, it serves as a reminder of the sacred state you are in and provides an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to performing Umrah or Hajj in accordance with Allah’s commands and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
Damm is obligatory when you have:
- Violated one of the prohibitions of Ihram, such as applying perfume or cutting the hair.
- Failed to perform a wajib act of Hajj, such as crossing the Miqat without entering into the state of Ihram.
- Transgressed the sanctity of the Haram, such as killing an animal within its boundaries.
The Dam should be offered as soon as possible. However, if absolutely necessary, it may be delayed to a more convenient time.
Please refer to these tables which provide a more comprehensive overview of actions that would require Damm.
How to give Dum for Umrah or Hajj
To make the process of giving Damm for Umrah or Hajj more convenient and accessible, we offer a dedicated Damm service. Our service aims to facilitate the fulfillment of this religious obligation with professionalism and adherence to Shariah principles. Here’s how our service works:
Selecting a Suitable Animal for Damm
Through our service, we choose a healthy and suitable animal for the Dum. We ensure that the animals meet the necessary criteria of eligibility, including good health and freedom from defects.
Professional Sacrifice Carried Out on Your Behalf
Once the animal has been selected, our team performs the sacrifice on your behalf. We ensure that the sacrifice is conducted in accordance with Shariah, following the recommended practices and guidelines.
Proper Distribution of Meat
After the sacrifice, the meat from the animal is distributed to the poor. Our team ensures that the portions are allocated to the most needy in Makkah.
Proof of Completed Damm
We provide documentation as proof of the performed Damm. We will first send you a notification that the sacrifice has been completed. If requested, we will also send you video evidence verifying the completion of the sacrifice on your behalf. Having such documentation adds to your peace of mind, knowing that the Damm has been carried out correctly.
Circumstances That Make Damm Obligatory

Show CommentsI am on the way to Makkah from Madinah wearing ihram and mistakenly used soap while hand wash on restaurant. Is damm is applicable.
Assalamu Alaikum,
I have performed Hajj in 2024. I suspect that I am obliged for Dumm as I was unsure that I was in proper area of musdalifa for night. As it was very crowded and pedestrian were not allowed to enter completely in Musdalifa. I could see that the sign board “Musdalifa starts from here” was few meter away from my night stay. I am not sure but I suspect the obligation of Dumm.
Is OK to give dumm if someone suspect but not sure about fulfilling all hajj requirements. Please advise.
Recently I have done umrah and by seeing heavy crowd, I wear face mask in the state of ihram, with an intension to prevent my self from viral infections. I would like to know whether is it a violation to wear facemask with a fear of viral infections. If it is a violation, I already left from makkah. What is the ruling for this.
Assalamu Alaikum. If someone commits multiple mistakes during one umrah, are they required to give separate Damm for each, or is one Damm enough for all of them?
One for each action missed or not performed
My Mrs used normal soap for cleaning hand the soap had some fragrance after performing umra she recognize that she got mistake, so it’s a dam or sadqa is obligated on her please advise, thanks

What if a woman start’s her period before umrah and she can’t wait until the 7 days are over because her stay in Makkah is short so she can’t wait or leave without doing tawaf. According to multiple scholars a woman can perform umrah with a pad on if she can’t wait until her period is over cause of tickets. So I am wondering do I still have to give dam ? What if a woman don’t have enough money?

I am not a scholar, but I studied lots of umrah / hajj issues.
You can not enter masjid when in period, 1: plan you umrah when you are not in period, best is to wait more days in Mecca, and do you umrah when clean.
You must give dum either in Saudi or in your home country.
Don’t have money, than umrah is not wajib, umrah / hajj is only when you financially strong.
Asalam o alaikum
I finished my first umrha and travel to madina after performing all faraiz. Than I return back to haram without umrah intention. Do I need to wear ihram ? .If I didn’t than should I have to do dum ? If yes dum is mandatory than can I do in my home country because now I can’t go there in near future.
Thanks.
Yes. Entering Mecca is not a joke, when ever you enter outside Meeqat, you have to wear ihram, only taxi, bus driver or people who are residents are not required.
Dum is on you, you can give it in your home town.
Assalamualaikom
I entered Makkah with the intention of performing umrah after a few days of rest. Therefore I didn’t entered Makkah in the state of ihram . However after 3 days I went to tanaim for ihram .
Do I need to pay Damm
Please clarify
You cannot enter Mecca without ihram.
Dum is on you.
You have to leave Mecca, and wear your ihram from Taif (not masjid Aisha).
As salamu alaikum.
A very helpul input, May Almighty Allah rewards you much.
In addition, can someone give out Damm only at makkah for mistakenly covering his face/head during umrah or even when returns home.
Best regards.
Assalam o Alaikum.
I live in Yanbu city. I went to Jeddah on Thursday evening. I put on ehraam on Friday night from Jeddah and went to Makkah and performed Umrah.
Is the above exercise acceptable?
Should I have put on ehraam from meeqat? or wearing ehraam from Jeddah is fine?
Walaikum Assalam.
As one should wear Ahraam before Meeqat Boundaries. If you live in are Yanbu city ,you should be in Ahraam before Entering into Meeqat. If you have travelled to jeddah ,you should go back to Meeqat Al-Jhuffa, to be in state of ahraam. In
opinion of most of the socholars, Jeddah is not considered out of meeqat. One should be cautious in performing very important rituals.
Jeddah is inside meeqat.
You have to wear ihram outside meeqat.
I came to Jeddah from Al Wajh and I have intention to perform Umraha but not on the same day. So, I entered in Makkha without ihram.

As umrah will be void if we will be
Failed to perform a Wajib (obligatory) act. A damm will be necessities if One will be out of state of ahraam before performing all Wajib acts.
